Lekhraj Singh
In the bowl of a quiet village, surrounded by trees and open skies, lived Lekhraj, a farmer whose connection to the land was as deep as his roots. The son of Gurudayal, Lekhraj was a man of few words but immense conviction. He had always believed in the power of nature and the strength of the soil beneath his feet. His life was simple, filled with honest work and the love of his family. His wife, Lata Devi, a resilient woman who had once served as the Sarpanch of their village, stood by him through every challenge.
For years, Lekhraj worked tirelessly on his land, growing herbs like Harad, Kanchina, Reetha (Soapnut), Curry Leaves, Adusa, Malkangni, and Vasaka. Despite his dedication, life was far from easy. The income was uncertain, and the market often unfair. There were days when Lekhraj wondered how much longer he could keep going. He had dreams for his children, his son Ajay, who was still studying, and his daughter Vandana, now married, but dreams need support, and that support was lacking.
In 2014, a turning point came. Lekhraj was invited to attend a conference seminar in Delhi, where he met a man who would change his life forever. Respected Narayan Dass Prajapati ji.
From the first conversation, something clicked.
Narayan Dass ji spoke not just about farming, but about purpose, dignity, and possibilities. He saw the potential in Lekhraj, and Lekhraj found a mentor who would guide him through the challenges ahead.
The partnership began, and with Narayan Dass ji’s support, Lekhraj embraced organic farming. He learned better practices and the value of fair partnerships. His herbs transformed from simple plants to his pride and livelihood. Slowly, his income grew, and the land, once a struggle, began to reward him.
By 2017, Lekhraj was not alone. 25 farmers joined him, and slowly slowly with the help of Cultivator’s he started increasing the farmer community. And then now time came with 99 farmers he has, who walk the same path. These farmers, who once struggled on their own, now stood united, inspired by Lekhraj’s journey under the guidance of Narayan dass ji. They were all part of a movement of change and growth.
But the transformation didn’t stop at farming.
Recognizing the importance of community, Cultivator’s supported Lekhraj’s vision of giving back. Cultivators funded them for community distribution work, Cultivator’s initiated several community-focused projects. They installed RO water coolers in government schools to provide clean drinking water and conducted tree plantation drives to promote a greener, healthier environment. These actions not only improved the lives of the community but also demonstrated the power of sustainable practices beyond farming help.
With this support, Lekhraj’s life flourished. He built a better future for his son, Ajay, who now had opportunities he never imagined, and he gave his daughter, Vandana, the values of perseverance and strength. Through all the hardships, Lekhraj had not only transformed his life but also uplifted his community.
Today, Lekhraj walks with his head held high. His story is not just about growing crops but growing people, giving hope, and creating a legacy. It all started with a simple handshake with Narayan Dass Prajapati ji in 2014, a meeting that sparked a transformation that touched lives far beyond his own.
One meeting, one bond, one dream, and a Lekhraj’s life transformed into a legacy.
